Jazz Age Lawn Party – Governor’s Island

Posted in 1920s, Jazz Age by Cindy Adelle Richard

I have been drooling over videos and pictures from the Jazz Age Lawn Parties held on Governor’s Island in New York for years.  I must attend one of these parties (I am officially adding it to my bucket list)!  I hope you enjoy these videos featuring dances called the “Shag” and the “Charleston”:

Happy New Year! I completed a Christmas day painting - it was fun to get back to painting. I hope you all enjoyed your holidays. #art #artwork #watercolor #watercolorartist #artist #vintageart #vintageillustration #watercolorillustrators #watercolorillustrations #1920 #1930 #1940
The holiday season has begun - there was a gingerbread contest at our holiday party on Friday. #holidayparty #gingerbreadhouse
I spent a lot of time journaling over this break period- when I wasn’t eating, reading, or watching “Wednesday” on Netflix (which I highly recommend by the way - classic Tim Burton). I made up my own writing month - Journal Writing Month (or JoWriMo) for short, and I’m happy to say I wrote everyday. I’m working on a fictional journal about a book society in Paris, and I figured a lot of things out during this month. #journalwriting #collage #writing #journaling
It was so nice to be home this weekend- I spent time watching movies while it snowed outside. I watched Cyrano, My Salinger Year, and Turning Red - and I enjoyed all of them! #moviesathome #snowday❄️
I did a bit of rearranging so I can start making use of my antique easel. Moving my work table to the middle of the room gives the illusion of more space as well. #artstudio #artspaces #artinspiration #writingstudio #writinginspiration #creativity
I forgot to mention that I attended The Kerrytown Book Festival a few weeks ago. I had a great time - there were author talks, workshops, independent booksellers and authors selling their self-published books, and artists. I simply could not leave without picking up a few books …. these hardbacks were a steal at $2.00 each!
